How Centrelink's 'robodebt' ran off the rails

Over the Christmas period in 2016, the Australian welfare agency issued thousands of false debt notices to past and present welfare recipients, using a flawed algorithm. Attempting to recoup what it claimed were billions in overpayment, the government was embroiled in a scandal that became known as 'robodebt'.

For the ABC's audio investigation program, I worked on this feature with Colin Cosier to understand and expose the flaws in the system through interviews and freedom of information requests.

Murder by the Sea

In 1973 young mother Lynette White was murdered in her Sydney apartment. Her baby was unharmed in his cot just metres away. Her killer has never been found, but her husband Paul has never given up, despite blunders in the initial police investigation and evidence lost within police archives.

I worked on this cold case with Rebecca Latham, contributing archival research as well as production assistance.
