Coverage of killings in Sweida for Channel 4 News

In July 2025, after tit for tat clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze groups in the southern Syrian province of Sweida, the government sent in a large deployment of military and internal security forces. Ceasefires and local agreements with Druze militia groups failed, and there was significant fighting. Up to a thousand Druze civilians in the outlying videos and in the city itself were killed.

As the producer and second camera for Channel 4 News I investigated and documented specific instances of civilian harm. We were one of the first news crews into the city and the first to report extensively on the events at Sweida National Hospital and name the civilian executed by government forces inside the reception area. We reported on the mass killing of an extended family in their home, and published detailed testimony of the massacre at the Radwan family guesthouse. We also revealed hostage-taking by Druze armed groups inside the city, and interviewed Druze spiritual leader Hikmat al-Hijri, who many armed groups later declared allegiance to.
